No one really knows how or when this game started. Some stories claim Blackbeard and his crew took the bones of their prey and – with a noose made of hemp – played the Ring Game on the decks of their sloops. Other stories suggest the game was created in a local bar with the click of dice in the background.

Regardless, generations have played this game, drinking rum (or any other swill available) after a long day. As the sun started dropping and the breezes kicked in, the games began. The grand prize? A drink of rum, of course.

Local versions of the game — as varied as the islands themselves — sprung up among the many islands, yet the goal remained the same: get the ring on the hook.
